PUPPY TRAINING CRATES
We have found over the year that there are many benefits for the puppy and the owner in crate training
young puppies.
Crate training usually involves rewarding the dog for entering the crate and for remaining there, using the
crate as part of a play session, feeding the dog in the crate, allowing the dog to explore and use the
crate. While you are home leave the door open and let them wonder in and out of there bed.
Inside the crate we put there bed, food and water along with a toy or something for them to snuggle up
to. For very young puppies that are in the process of being house trained. There is plenty of space to put
a bed to the back and paper down at the front over night.
Dogs are a valuable and much loved part of many families lives, but no one is home all day every day
and a new puppy needs to have a place that feels safe as much as you need to know they are safe and
not reeking havoc around the house.
Dogs, like all canines, are den-dwelling animals by instinct and a crate becomes a den substitute,
providing a familiar and safe haven for the dog.
They can be useful beyond simply being a place to keep your pup while you’re in bed. It can also be a
great ‘time out’ area when guests come over, when you’re eating dinner or when the children are all
shouting its my turn!, it's a case of right the dog wants to go in his bed for a while.
As a pup grows and is house trained we generally change the crate to a normal dog bed or cushion at
around 4-5 months old, by this stage the are fine to have the run of the house, are settled and know there
routine.
