ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIELS
TEMPERAMENT
English springer spaniels are gentle, friendly, playful dogs with tails that never stop wagging.
They enjoy the company of people and other dogs, love water and are always on the go.

COLOUR
They come in mainly 2 colours, Liver & white and Black & white. However rarely you can get
a mix of all three(tri coloured)

SIZE
all of our springers are small and well built. Unlike the show type springer that are quite tall
with long coats, Working type dogs are smaller more compact with shorter coats. Both types
make equally as good family pets, although show types need a lot of grooming.

SPRINGERS AS A WORKING DOG
English springer spaniels have been used as working dogs for many years. They make great
companions on a days shoot and are talented retrievers on land and water.

SPRINGERS AS A FAMILY PET
The springer is a very bright breed and is able to adapt well to most situations and house
types. They are becoming a ever more popular as a family pet and are wonderful with
children of all ages and other pets (except birds) and are one of the easiest breeds to train.

Buster
Is a eye condition found in English Springer Spaniels and many other breeds, it tends to onset at about age three. It is an
inherited condition and the gene responsible has only been identified recently but now with DNA testing its very easy to
detect and only breed clear dogs.
There is no treatment for PRA which is what makes it very important to test for. The degree of visual impairment varies
with the breed and specific type of retinal degeneration as described above, but most affected dogs will ultimately be
completely blind. As long as 1 parent for any litter is tested clear is guarantees that any offspring from that litter will not
develop Pra.

2.Fucosidosis
Fucosidosis is a devastating and fatal disease.  It is an inherited condition found in English Springer spaniels and causes
rapid deterioration in the affected animal's nervous system. To be affected a dog must have two copies of the gene, one
inherited from each parent. It is the case with most canine diseases as long as 1 parent is tested clear there offspring will
never develop the disease as they need the gene to be passed from both parents to be affected.
Affected dogs will normally begin to show symptoms at a young age and die within a few weeks. Fucosidosis is rare in the
UK at the moment,  but that could all change very quickly and it has in many neighbouring countries.
